The US Jeune Commis finals were held this past weekend in Atlanta as part of the Culinary Weekend.
For the second consecutive year the Northeast regional contestant was the winner.
I want to express my gratitude to Ginnie Kagan for sponsoring Joe Baffoe as well as our Conseilleur Culinaire Mark Wright and Conseiller Culinaire Honoraire Yono Purnomo for their work in running our regional events and their mentorship of our winners as they advance.
I am counting on our regional baillis to work with local culinary professionals to bring the best young talent to our regional competition. Thank you for all that you do in your local chapters to keep our region strong.

Dear Baillis and Regional Officers,Great news to report from the Chaine Culinary Weekend in Kansas City.
Our Regional Jeune Commis winner, Gabriela O'Neil, placed first an the national Jeune Commis competition. She will move on to the International Finals in Paris along with our pre- pandemic Northeast contestant, Carly Yezzo, the National Runner Up in 2019 who was slated to compete in 2020 with an additional year of preparation to help level the playing field with countries that prepare candidates an extra year. Because of the 2020 cancellation of the international event each country will be entering 2 candidates this year. This is a proud moment for our Northeast Team. Join me in thanking Conseiller Culinaire Provincial Honoraire Yono Purnomo and Conseiller Culinaire Provincial Mark Wright for their hard work and mentorship of our young chefs. I also want to thank the local Baillis that recruit and support candidates for our competitions. Finally, we also owe a debt of gratitude to Donna Purnomo for her tireless logistical support of Yono and keeping the restaurant running smoothly while Yono takes on these endeavors.
Also, more good news. Chef Yono was also awarded a Gold Star of Excellence by Bailli Delegue Bertrand de Boutray at the weekend. A most well deserved honor.
In addition to the competition, it was great to reconnect in person with my Chaine friends that I haven't seen in over a year. The announcement for our Grand Chapitre in Nashville during the first weekend in October is forthcoming. I encourage everyone to join me in attending.
