Dear Confrères et Consoeurs

2020 will be a year to remember for many reasons. The pandemic has impacted all of our lives and reminded us how important it is to appreciate and cherish our families, friends, and everything we have in life.

As this year comes to an end and we approach the festive season, we thought hard about how we can stay safe, yet still say "au revoir" to 2020 in true Chaîne fashion. We have considered various options and decided to head to GRECA by The Greek in Tribeca for a special collaboration between GRECA's owner Tom Galis, and Mitsunobu Nagae of Shun for a marriage of authentic Greek and French cuisine. The venue has been carefully chosen as it provides ample space for social distancing in a quiet corner of New York, and we are further limiting capacity to [25]% to ensure the safety of our members.

GRECA is the brainchild of Tom Galis, who opened its sister restaurant The Greek in Tribeca in 2013 as a venue to introduce the comfort food of his childhood in Greece to New York. The Greek was meant to be a neighborhood gathering spot, but its amazing food and friendly atmosphere soon attracted a broader crowd from beyond Tribeca and earned the restaurant a recommendation from the Michelin Guide since 2014. As The Greek became a success, Tom decided to open GRECA in 2018 to answer daily questions from The Greek patrons like "where can I get this cheese?" and "where do you get your olive oil?". Fast forward to 2020, a year we all know that has not been easy on our friends in the hospitality business, Tom decided to concentrate his efforts on GRECA by consolidating The Greek and GRECA and has been serving favorite dishes from The Greek and creative new dishes from GRECA's beautiful open kitchen.

Mitsunobu Nagae, a native of Osaka, Japan, is a rising star in the New York culinary community with extensive experience globally at various prestigious restaurants. Since apprenticing at the 3 Michelin-Star Regis et Jacques Marcon in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid, France, he went back to Japan to work at Chateau Restaurant by Joel Robuchon in Tokyo (3 Michelin-Stars), before moving back to Paris in 2013 to join Pavillon Ledoyen under chef Yannick Alléno (3 Michelin-stars). Since 2016, Chef Nagae has been in various managerial roles at Restaurant Joel Robuchon in both Tokyo and New York. In 2019, he was appointed as Chef de Cuisine at Restaurant Shun in New York headed by acclaimed Chef Alain Verzeroli.

As you expect, we have selected a range of glorious wines from our cellar to present with Tom and Chef Nagae's marvelous cuisine, ranging from Bubbles to Bordeaux.

This special event is our way of saying farewell to an eventful 2020, raising a glass in gratitude to our health and well-being, and welcoming the opportunities and challenges of 2021 will bring.

So, join us on December 8th, as we salute the season, and revel in the treasures of truly exceptional cuisine, genuinely memorable wine, and the heart warming glow of shared friendship. Seats are limited and capacity control are strictly enforced, so please RSVP soon!
